On the evening of May 17, The Tennessean and The Commercial Appeal reported that legislators are considering a special legislative session to take up a new effort to pass a statewide anti-transgender bathroom discrimination law. Significant numbers of trans women experience violence at the hands of cis men. There is no documentation of cis women experiencing violence at the hands of trans women. This addresses a made up problem by putting already marginalized people in more danger. I’m embarrassed to say I’m from Tennessee.

Please quit creating problems to solve that are an embarrassment to our state and begin working on real issues that need addressing. We’ve got to the bathroom with transgender persons for years with no problem.

HB2 will cost North Carolina $5 billion over the next 12 months. Let’s not make the Tennessee economy and its people suffer. Hateful legislation has already cost Nashville significant money, though Nashville’s reputation for and resolve of inclusivity, wisdom and acceptance will not be moved. It’s time to stop wasting time and money and move ALL of Tennessee forward, not just Nashville.

We can judge the content of our character by how we treat the most vulnerable among us. What is Tennessee’s character?

This is a non issue. Transgendered citizens have been using the restrooms of their appropriate sex for many years with no problems. You don’t even realize it.
