Call on the Coffee County DA to Resign

Coffee County District Attorney Craig Northcott has made anti-Muslim statements and said that he does not treat LGBTQ people experiencing domestic violence the same as other survivors.  He can no longer effectively serve the people of Coffee County or the thousands of people who visit Coffee County each year for Bonnaroo.

We call on Craig Northcott to resign the office of District Attorney for Coffee County.  His anti-Muslim statements and his admission that he does not treat LGBTQ domestic violence cases with respect are disqualifying for office.  He must step down so that the people of Coffee County can be served by a District Attorney who will apply the law according to the principle of equal protection.

Any type of leadership that promotes hate, violence, and death is THE WRONG type of leadership.

I am a TN native and find the remarks made unbelievably insensitive and bigoted. You must resign now if you cannot perform your duties with equal faith and effort for all Tennesseans.

This is disgusting; the job of a District Attorney is to ENFORCE ALL THE LAWSEQUALLY – No matter his or her personal preferences or beliefs, If incapable of doing so, QUIT! PERIOD! The job calls for swearing an Oath of Office – on your Bible in this case, I assume – pledging to SUPPORT and DEFEND the Constitution! This man is a disgrace to the office and to the people he is sworn to PROTECT! ANY official who “chooses not” to enforce the law based on personal bias is Guilty of Reckless Abandonment, is aiding and abetting Assault and possibly Murder through his negligent abandonment of his duties. And of course he is also committing a Federal crime by depriving certain citizens of their Civil Rights and equal protection of the law.

He needs to GO or be PUT OUT – and Maybe Lock Him UP, if it turns out anyone’s been injured or killed by his abusive personal bigotry.

We do not live in a theocracy. Please keep your religious views out of our government. You are a public servant meant to serve all people, even those different than yourself. If you can’t uphold that vow, you need to resign immediately. There is no room for hate, prejudice and discrimination in our public systems.
