On the evening of May 17, The Tennessean and The Commercial Appeal reported that legislators are considering a special legislative session to take up a new effort to pass a statewide anti-transgender bathroom discrimination law. As a transgender Tennessean, these laws are a direct threat to my safety, and a breach of my rights. They don’t actually achieve any of the protections used to justify them, and ultimately their only result is to further endanger and stigmatize trans individuals… especially the youth.

I am truly saddened that the legislature would spend time on this trying to make TN part of the “Old South” and caving into fear. As we know, most assaults are by heterosexual men that are known by the family, not stranger of any sexual identify in the bathroom. I suggest you do real work of the people and stop being “politicians” pandering to fear and special interest. The people will remember this, and I will work to make sure they do, and we will vote you out for the wasteful spending of our money and resources. Please remember, you represent us, not yourself.
