On the evening of May 17, The Tennessean and The Commercial Appeal reported that legislators are considering a special legislative session to take up a new effort to pass a statewide anti-transgender bathroom discrimination law. Don’t let us turn into another North Carolina please! It is discrimination and will cost us not only federal funding but either chase businesses away or keep them from relocating here. TOO much to lose here especially since this changes nothing that has not been in effect, with no problems, for years!

I lived in Memphis for the first 30 years of my life. I am ashamed and disgusted at how Tennessee is trying to treat it’s own LGBT citizens. It’s not the bastion of Southern hospitality that I grew up with.

This is beyond disgraceful. The reason for doing this is disingenuous, it hurts Tennesseans, and does NOTHING to help with sexual assault as the bill’s sponsors claim. If they want to actually do something of substance, pass laws to get the backlog of rape kits tested or give law enforcement and prosecutors better tools to prosecute actual rape and domestic violence cases.

Please don’t spend my state’s money and time on discriminating against trans-gender individuals. It hurts my soul to think that there is even such legislation, but there are more important things to focus on in TN. Please think before you act.
