Defend Diversity at UT-Knoxville: Veto SB1912

The Legislature passed SB1912/HB2248 that removes funding from the Office for Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Sign this petition that we will deliver to Governor Haslam asking him to veto the bill.

As Chair of the Board of Trustees Gov Haslam needs to defend UT from this inappropriate move to micro-manage UT. We will make every effort to vote many of these folks out of office in August and November so he won’t have to worry about this happening in the future. There are reasonable Republicans in this State – we will find them and replace the men who try to impose their 1950’2 world view on the rest of us.

My daughter is a straight-A student at Hume Fogg. She is considering UTK as a top college choice partly because of its large, diverse student population. Please veto this bill as it goes against everything that a leading university should stand for. Diversity is important, and even more so in a state with a legislature that is hell-bent on enacting discriminatory, intrusive laws. Again, please veto this bill. If the Tennessee legislature continues to enact these types of laws, we will seriously consider leaving the state and sending our daughter to a more inclusive university outside of Tennessee. Thank you.
