Urge Senators Alexander and Corker to speak up for LGBTQ people when the next Supreme Court justice is appointed

Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy is retiring so the President will name a successor who must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.  Sign to urge Senator Alexander and Senator Corker to speak up for the LGBTQ community during the confirmation process.  TEP will deliver a hard copy of the signatures to their offices.

Senator Alexander and Senator Corker:

When the President announces his choice to replace Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, we urge you to speak up for the rights of LGBTQ people.  It is vitally important that members of the Supreme Court support the principle of "equal protection" and that Justice Kennedy's successor uphold the existing rights of LGBTQ people and oppose discrimination against LGBTQ people.  We respectfully ask you to raise these concerns publicly and not to vote for any nominee who supports discrimination.

Don’t allow this under investigation to pick someone only to appease his base. He shouldn’t even have a base. He is supposedly every American citizen’s President. He needs to act like it.

    Honorable Legislators,

My wife and I have been a rock solid couple for 30 years. Considering the divorce rate hovers around 50 percent, that’s pretty good. We own our own home, look after our elderly neighbor and pay our taxes (and support our volunteer Fire Department.) We help others and bother no one. As tax paying citizens, we pay YOU. Now we count on you to protect our rights. President Trump protects no one but himself and his own interests. He will sell a seat on the Supreme Court of this Nation to the highest bidder and need we remind you that (likely extremist) person will hold that seat for life. What will this country be subjected to? We don’t simply plead with you on behalf of our right to be married like everyone else. We are concerned about many issues than an unbalanced Supreme Court may disrupt. Please, withhold confirmation until after the midterm elections. We are counting on you as level headed Tennesseans to do the right thing!

    Respectfully Submitted,

    Elaine and Ramona

Isolating citizens for their personal life choices that don’t negatively affect others only divides us more. Do the right thing and speak up for ALL the citizens that exist and dwell in your state, not only those that fit your ideal of an American lifestyle.

I have gay and trans family members, so this is important. Please make sure their rights are protected. They are your constituents as well. It is terrible that we have to be proactive this way. LGBTQ rights need to be guarenteed.
