Bullies always seem to need to hurt others; however, I still do not understand religious bigotry. These people seem fine with what they deem as sin when it is concerning anything or anyone other than themselves. I also do not understand why reading and research is so difficult for them; to pride ones self in ignorance is just foolish. If you truly believe in a God, imagine what if you are wrong in condemning others and what that means for your soul. I guess since you condemn so easily you have no fear of God and thus do not truly believe as you say; actions speak louder than words. Adding to peoples suffering is just wrong and contradictory to doing good. Hope my signature helps, I too am tired of religion being used as a weapon of hate.

As a Christian, and a Professor of Social Work, and a church elder team, and a proud Tennessean, I am BEGGING the TN Legislature, and the case of HB 1840 Governor Haslam, to stop cheapening our faith for a dying politic, and start actually living it in ways that show Christians are not afraid of the “other” but are called by Christ himself to be the first to welcome and embrace the other. With so many real and pressing issues our state needs to address, including actual violence against against women and children by self-identifying straight, religious males (some even in the halls…or previously in the halls…of your legistlature), please step back from therapist and counselors working to bring healing and wholeness, students who are outshining their legislators by being welcoming and refusing fear-mongering, and the majority of wise and gentle pastors seeking to show their kindness, hospitality, and open arms to all in the name of Christ rather than cheapening the Scriptures, refusing healthcare services and disrespecting therapists and social workers across the state, and worrying about opposite sex parent and child entering the bathroom together as well as someone who no longer has a penis, but rather has a vagina and breasts being forced to enter the men’s restroom.


I’m ashamed of nearly all of our current Legislators for their refusal to do meaningful and important work, and give thanks for the few, including Gov. Haslam who recently and wisely vetoed the Bible as State Book bill.


Hopefully the days ahead will show that legislators are no longer willing to fuel hatred in order to remain in office, but actually work to ensure a brighter future for Tennessee that welcomes global and national investors rather than telling them we are xenophobic, homophibic, and unconcerned about health, healthcare, education, children, and the poor among us.


Christ asked for better. Don’t do less in his name.

how can you use religion and the bible to discriminate against ANYONE?! We’re not even sure if the bible is real! So over the hurt and mean spirited “Christians”!

Religion is a personal choice. It shouldn’t be used as a reason to pass laws which require those who do not believe to follow as well.

This is a dangerous slippery slope. Next Islamist will be able to not issue a driver’s license to women. That is the smallest of the problems if we continue to use any religion to RESTRICT human rights.

The entire constitution is based on granting people rights, and restricting government.

If we begin down this dangerous path, it opens up Pandora’s box in a way that will be hard to undo.

Tread carefully when you begin to restrict the rights of a single group of individuals. Next is another group, then a wider net… when will it stop?

I agree with REV LUCK!………top the fear mongering and hateful rhetoric! Brains were made to be used. All women’s bathrooms have individual stalls with locks—your daughters are safe, unless of course they were born male but identify female. We all know they cannot enter a male bathroom and not be beaten to a pulp. I ask you what would Jesus do? He’d be on the side of love and sensibility. And as law enforcement has told you, this is unenforceable.
