We always bring our values into the counseling session. The ACA has never taken that away from counselors. We accept all, and our values allow us to do this. We can refer, although responsibly, ethically and prudently. The Code of Ethics are a guide to us, not a rigid rulebook.

    Dear, Governor Haslam,

I am writing to urge you to veto HB1840, the counseling discrimination bill.

Everyone that lives in TN or does business in TN pays TN sales tax.

Companies offering medical services regulated and controlled by the state are permitted to do so at the convenience of the state.

Expenses related to state regulation are paid by TN tax payers.

I do not believe any services regulated or licensed by the state (at tax payer cost) can be allowed to selectively exclude services to any one group or class of taxpayer.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Bruce Torelli

    Governor Bill Haslam,

As a LGBT person and more importantly as a citizen of the state of Tennessee, I am urging you to veto HB1840, the counseling discrimination bill and any other bills that target the LGBT community in our state.

As Harvey Bernard Milk who was the first the first openly gay American politician to be elected to public office in California said, " It takes no compromising to give people their rights. It takes no money to respect the individual. It takes no survey to remove repressions. I have tasted freedom, and I will not give up that of which I have tasted. We must Burst down those closet doors once and for all, and stand up and start to fight."

As Americans and human beings, we must all fight the fight in one way or another, we all must continue the great work that we have started and never look back, and we must keep moving forward to a better tomorrow were every is treated with dignity and respect regardless of who they are.

Please stand up for what is just and constitutional and do not pass any bills that could positionally harm any group of people.

    Thank you for your time,

    Roddy Biggs.

Just left a VM (hit 4 on weekends) citing the American Counseling Association Ethics code which was misinterpreted by a TN therapist testifying in committee. Said therapist spent decades helping IV drug users but does not want to serve LGBT clients as they violate his “sincerely held beliefs”. This is a clear violation of Ethics Code – including C2.a and C5
