Who We Are

The Tennessee Equality Project’s Corporate Circle is a group of businesses that have made a financial commitment to the cause of equality in Tennessee.  Members of the Corporate Circle have recently included Bridgestone, Tribe/Play, Out & About Newspaper, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, and Provence Breads & Café.  In October 2006 TEP received a strong endorsement from the Human Rights Campaign with a gift of $7000 to support our legislative efforts.

A Way to Support Equality

A corporate gift to the Tennessee Equality Project shows the community that your business supports positive change.  In Tennessee, the only way for a corporation to make a contribution to support real change in our laws is to give money to a 501(c)(4) organization that lobbies the General Assembly.  Corporate contributions to political action committees are forbidden under Tennessee law, and contributions to 501(c)(3) organizations cannot directly affect legislation.  The Tennessee Equality Project is a 501(c)(4) corporation that employs an experienced lobbyist to advocate for equality in the Tennessee General Assembly and in local governments.  90% of your contribution will underwrite our direct lobbying efforts.

A Way to Increase Your Visibility

By joining the Corporate Circle, your business will be associated with the equality and diversity brands.  The benefits of joining at different levels offer you ways to promote your business in Tennessee’s GLBT community.  Your company’s name would be associated with a professional, results driven approach to social change.  TEP is consistently portrayed in the press as a successful and focused.

Focused on Results

The Tennessee Equality Project has achieved remarkable results in our first three years.  With a record number of anti-equality bills filed concerning marriage, civil unions, adoption, higher education, and foster parenting in 2005, the only discriminatory action to succeed in the General Assembly was the proposed marriage amendment that appeared on the November 2006 ballot.  The strength of our lobbying relationships helped quash the introduction of discriminatory legislation in 2006 and 2007.
